FOOD SECURITY AND LIVEHOOD TRAINING FOR THE CAREGIVERS AT KE759

Agriculture in Israel is a highly developed industry. Israel is a major exporter of fresh produce and a world-leader in agricultural technologies despite the fact that the geography of the country is not naturally conducive to agriculture, more than half of the land area is desert, and the climate and lack of water resources do not favor farming. Only 20% of the land area is naturally arable. In 2008 agriculture represented 2.5% of total GDP and 3.6% of exports while farmworkers made up only 3.7% of the work force, Israel produced 95% of its own food requirements, supplementing this with imports of grain, oilseeds, meat, coffee, cocoa and sugar.

The agricultural sector is the backbone of the economy, contributing approximately 33 percent of Kenya’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The agriculture sector employs more than 40 percent of the total population and 70 percent of the rural population. However, agricultural productivity has stagnated in recent years. Smallholder farmers and agricultural enterprises continue to face challenges growing their businesses and improving the quality of agricultural goods.

Agriculture is the noblest of all alchemy; for it turns earth, and even manure, into gold, conferring upon its cultivator the additional reward of health. Agriculture is our wisest pursuit, because it will in the end contribute most to real wealth, good morals & happiness. The ultimate goal of farming is not the growing of crops, but the cultivation and perfection of human beings. “Farming isn’t a battle against nature, but a partnership with it. It is respecting the basics of nature in action and ensuring that they continue.” Jeff Koehler. Agriculture is the most healthful, most useful and most noble employment of man. Agriculture was the first occupation of man, and as it embraces the whole earth, it is the foundation of all other industries.

We, at KE759 having known the above importance and facts about agriculture we haven’t given a dumb ear on it rather than we have been practically and proactively been empowering all parents and supported youths on how to understand & embrace Agriculture at a great deal. On 26th of January 2022 we invited Mumoni Ward Agricultural extension officer who came and skilfully and intensively trained about food security and livelihood to over 200 project caregivers on food security and livelihood whose children and youths are supported via this church. The project caregivers have been doing intensive drip irrigation farming in four respective farm lands, they’re doing intensive farming in their individual farm lands as well. We thank God since over 90% of the caregivers have really embraced Agriculture concept.
